Alberto Pani
Founding Partner and Chief Executive Officer
Alberto has over 25 years of combined experience in financial markets and the energy sector. Prior to founding e3, Alberto served as Chief Investment Officer at Promecap, where he managed a globally diversified portfolio of conventional and alternative assets. Before Promecap, he was Managing Partner and Portfolio Manager at Pani Bekaert Pluim Capital LLC, a global hedge fund based in San Francisco, CA.
Earlier in his career, he was the advisor coordinator to the Deputy Secretary of Electricity at the Ministry of Energy, where he led the team responsible for designing and negotiating the electricity reform. During his tenure at the Ministry, he met the partners with whom he would later co-found e3.
Alberto holds a degree in Applied Mathematics from the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM), a diploma in Dynamic Econometric Systems from the same institution, and wrote his thesis on long-term equilibrium cointegration models for fossil fuel prices. He also holds an M.B.A. from the Haas Graduate School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley.
Germán Sandoval
Founding Partner and Member of the Board of Directors
Germán has over 48 years of experience in infrastructure. For many years, he was responsible for negotiating most of the investments and credit instruments for infrastructure development in Mexico through Banobras and Nafinsa, acting as the Mexican government’s representative in negotiations with the international financial community.
He served as Director General of Banobras, where he contributed to the development of programs aimed at encouraging private sector participation in the construction and operation of highways, water supply systems, and water treatment plants.
Germán was also Chief Financial Officer of the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE), where he led the inter-institutional effort to design the framework for Productive Infrastructure Projects with Deferred Impact on Budgetary Expenditure (PIDIREGAS). This model was key to expanding the installed generation capacity of Mexico’s electric sector from 1997 onward.
Gustavo Salvador
Founding Partner and Member of the Board of Directors
Gustavo is a specialist in power dispatch and electrical system control with over 39 years of experience in Mexico’s electric industry. He joined the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) in 1977. In 2002, he was appointed Director General of the National Energy Control Center (CENACE), the institution responsible for operating Mexico’s electric system—a position he held until 2010.
During his tenure at CENACE, he led the design and implementation of CFE’s internal energy market. Additionally, he oversaw the comprehensive modernization of CENACE and its eight regional control centers.
Gustavo holds a master’s degree in Electrical Systems from the Instituto Tecnológico de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey.
Anselmo Sánchez
Founding Partner and Chief Operating Officer
Anselmo is an expert in the Mexican energy market, with over 35 years of experience working at the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) and other entities within Mexico’s energy sector.
At the National Energy Control Center (CENACE), the institution responsible for operating Mexico’s electric system, Anselmo was in charge of planning and economic operations. There, he led the team responsible for designing and implementing CFE’s internal energy market.
Anselmo also served as an advisor to the National Institute of Electricity and Clean Energy (INEEL), where he developed the systems and operational protocols for the new energy market. He holds a master’s degree in Electrical Engineering and Power Systems from the Instituto Politécnico Nacional (IPN).
Mario Orozco
Director of Strategy and Business Development
Mario has over 15 years of experience in strategy, consulting, and technology. At e3, he leads the development of new business opportunities, implementing optimized solutions that integrate solar energy, storage, natural gas, and the power grid. He also manages the negotiation of commercial contracts with clients and energy providers. His expertise includes technical and financial analysis, due diligence, market and technology assessments, and the creation of new strategies and business models.
Before joining e3, Mario coordinated co-development efforts with international funds for over 500 MW in renewable energy and cogeneration projects, covering commercial, technical, legal, and financial aspects. He also co-founded a business incubator, launching several startups in the energy, healthtech, insurtech, and financial sectors. In 2022, he was recognized by Forbes as one of Mexico’s “30 Promises.”
Mario previously worked as a consultant at Bain & Company, supporting clients in mergers and acquisitions and operational improvements across various industries. He holds a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and an MBA from MIT, as well as a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from ITESM.
Hugo Martínez
Chief Financial Officer
Hugo has over 25 years of experience in accounting and finance, with a focus on financial analysis, planning, and infrastructure project evaluation.
He previously worked at Abengoa and Bombardier, where he was involved in financial evaluation and project structuring for energy plants and railway infrastructure, as well as serving as a controller. Hugo also has experience within the “Big Four,” having worked for several years at EY and Deloitte in the Transaction Advisory and International Tax areas.
Hugo holds a degree in Public Accounting from the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM), along with a diploma in Corporate Advisory from the same institution. He also earned an International MBA jointly offered by three universities: University of Bradford, Universidad de Deusto, and Nantes École de Management.
